We tried quinoa for the first time the other night. I’ve heard all the hype and praise. Being a food blogger, I figured I should try it. I was easy enough to prepare–2 cups liquid to 1 cup quinoa. I used chicken broth. We all liked it. It had a nuttiness about it similar to brown rice.
The box, boasting of quinoa’s high protein content and versatility, suggested quinoa for breakfast.
This morning I gave it a whirl. I used 2 cups milk this time. I expected it to be similar to oatmeal, I suppose. We may never know.
I’ll just let you imagine how my microwave looked! Ugh! Breakfast was ruined and pricey quinoa was wasted.
Do any of you eat quinoa for breakfast? If so, please, share your success!

Peggy,
Quinoa is a good protein source. sorry for the bad first experience.
I have never eaten it for breakfast and I have never tried it with milk or in the microwave. We have it for dinner sometimes. I cook it on the stove like rice and treat it like a rice pilaf adding peas, carrots and flavorings. etc…..try it again. we like it!

Great to hear from you, Corey! Looks like I’ll have to keep trying the quinoa. Hugs to the family.

Hey Peggy! Love your site. Larry made your Lemon Spaghetti for me last Friday night and we liked that a lot. As far as quinoa, we love quinoa and coincidentally just this past Sunday, I made a quinoa for breakfast recipe for Larry that i had found in Runners World magazine and it was really yummy. I make my quinoa on the stove, haven’t ever used the microwave. Now this recipe was really yummy. It has toasted coconut and pecans and I made it with almond milk. Larry doesn’t really like oatmeal a lot, so I tried this. Topped with fresh strawberries! I’ll e-mail it to you if you want. Also, we make quinoa a lot as a side dish with different vegetables and spices, and we really like it. We also use brown rice a lot…Thanks for being a blogger!!!!

Wow! Thanks for the great comments, Christa. I’m not giving up on quinoa just yet. We actually tried Almond Joy oatmeal–made with almond milk sprinkled with coconut, chocolate chips and almonds.
Glad y’all like the Lemon Spaghetti!
